Introducing Neighborhood Mobility Hubs in Urban Metro Station Areas : A Strategic Approach Considering Local Characteristics

Abstract
Metro station areas serve as central nodes in public transportation systems, connecting transit accessibility with life social overhead capital (SOC) and acting as critical urban hubs. However, disparities in transportation and service accessibility persist in certain areas, necessitating strategic interventions. Neighborhood mobility hubs are effective tools to enhance transit connectivity through shared mobility services, and they improve life SOC access thereby promoting urban sustainability. This study proposes tailored strategies for implementing neighborhood mobility hubs by analyzing locational and usage characteristics of urban railway stations in Seoul. Public transit concentration and life SOC concentration indicators were developed, and cluster analysis classified stations into three primary types of focus: transit, life SOC, and general. Temporal ridership patterns are incorporated to refine these clusters into nine distinct groups, and customized strategies are proposed for each group. This study provides actionable insights for mitigating transportation and service disparities, fostering urban sustainability in Seoul's metro station areas.
도시철도 역세권의 특성을 고려한 근린 모빌리티 허브 도입 전략 연구
초록
도시철도역은 대중교통 체계의 중심지로, 대중교통 접근성과 생활SOC의 연계를 통해 도시 내 주요 거점 역할을 수행한다. 하지만 일부 지역은 교통 및 생활서비스 접근성의 불균형이 존재하며, 이를 개선하기 위한 전략이 요구된다. 근린 모빌리티 허브는 대중교통 서비스는 물론 다양한 공유 모빌리티 서비스를 통해 대중교통 접근성을 강화하고, 생활SOC와의 연계를 통해 도시의 지속가능성을 제고할 수 있는 효과적인 도구로 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 서울시 도시철 도 역사의 입지여건과 이용패턴을 고려하여 근린 모빌리티 허브 도입 전략을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 대중교통 결집성과 생활SOC 결집성 지표를 도출하고 군집분석을 통해 역세권을 세 가지 유형으로 분류하였다. 이후 시간대별 이용패턴 데이터를 활용해 최종적으로 9개의 군집을 도출하고, 각 군집의 특성에 부합하는 맞춤형 도입 전략을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 도시철도역의 교통 및 생활서비스 불균형 해소와 도시의 지속가능한 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
