Development and Verification of Influence of Area Prediction Model in Case of Emergency Situation in Urban Area

Abstract

This study was conducted to develop and verify a model that can predict traffic flow changes and the sphere of influence in the event of an unexpected situation on an interrupted road in urban areas. The changes in queues and traffic flows caused by unexpected situations were analyzed through simulation, and the traffic volume changes and the length of the queue were predicted in the upstream and downstream sections by setting various scenarios. In particular, a theoretical model reflecting the interactions between the signal intersection and the point of occurrence of an unexpected situation was proposed, which was certified through a VISSIM simulation. The analysis showed that when an unexpected situation occurs, the changes in the queue increase in the upstream part. In addition, the queue varies according to the signal system in the queue due to the signal system in the downstream part. This study is expected to contribute to the effective operation of the traffic management system and the advances in the unexpected situation response system.
