Design Scenarios for the Empirical Evaluation of Autonomous Vehicle Control Center
Abstract
This study systematically structured traffic problems that could worsen in the context of the introduction of autonomous vehicles and the coexistence of conventional vehicles into scenarios, and systematized control center services and functions corresponding thereto from the perspective of monitoring, decision support, and implementation of traffic management strategies. We present a framework for systematically assessing service combinations and intervention strengths that can be applied in each situation by decomposing and recombining functions according to the information input–processing–output flow for each scenario. We also emphasize the importance of defining the service composition and level of intervention at the scenario level rather than individual functional performance, with explicit consideration of the risks that may arise in an environment in which heterogeneous vehicles and systems are interconnected, and provide a conceptual basis for future control center design and operational principles through the proposed framework.
